The retro revolving doors, black and white photos of old Shanghai hanging on the walls, and even the wooden counter at the front desk had a warm texture that had been polished for decades. The aunt who checked in spoke soft Shanghainese, and when she handed over her room card, she smiled and reminded me to go to the observation deck on the top floor in the evening to watch the sunset on the Bund. The scenery was beautiful with few people and there was no need to squeeze.
